HSB Turning Torso is 190 metres high. The construction consists of nine cubes with five floors each. Adding to this the intermediate floors the total comes to 54 floors. Each floor has ca 400m² of available space. This gives 147 apartments from cube three to nine.

In principle, each floor consists of a square part around the core and a triangular part which is supported by an external steel structure. The entire construction twists 90 degrees on its way up.

The architect
Santiago Calatrava, artist, sculptor and engineer, is based in Zurich, Paris, Valencia and New York. He finds inspiration in the natural movements of animals and humans. HSB Turning Torso represents a human body in a twisting motion. Amongst Calatrava's acclaimed works are bridges, railway stations, communications towers and traffic control towers.

The local partners in Sweden are Samark Arkitektur & Design AB with offices in Malmö and Stockholm. They are responsible for the interior design, floor plans and the selection of materials.

Location
HSB Turning Torso is located in the Western Harbour, an area by the sea within walking distance of the city centre and the Ribersborg beach. The Western Harbour is being transformed step by step into a new, dynamic district for living, working and studying.

HSB Turning Torso Meetings
On the two top floors, 53rd and 54th, HSB Turning Torso Meetings is creating attractive and inspiring meeting facilities. HSB Turning Torso Meetings protects the environment and work in accordance with the Swan label’s criteria for hotels in order to offer our clients an ecologically sound meeting environment.

Total apartment area
The total apartment area is about 13,500 m², from the third to the ninth cube.

Total commercial space
The total commercial space is approximately 4,000 m² in the lower two cubes. The commercial area will have its own lifts and all conceivable comforts in heating, cooling and IT systems.

Guest Rooms
Three guest rooms with en suite shower and WC is available on the 43rd floor.

Sauna
There are two sauna sections on the 43rd floor.

Exercise
A gym is located on the 43rd floor.

Panorama room
A large room with capacity for 20 people is located on the 49th and 43rd floors (between cubes 8 and 9, and between cubes 7 and 8).

Function suite
Located on the 7th floor with seating capacity for up to 30 people.

Wine cellar
You have access to your own lockable space in the building's temperature controlled wine cellar.

Office modules
There are 8 fully equipped office modules on the first floor that can be rented by the residents. The function suite on the 7th floor can be partitioned to create two conference rooms.

Lifts
There are three high-speed lifts in the core of the building servicing the apartments. The commercial area has two separate lifts, also located in the core.

Stairs
In addition to the lifts there is a staircase all the way up to the top floor.

Windows
All rooms have windows which can be opened, all fitted with safety catches. External window cleaning is included in the monthly service charge.

Individual debiting
The property is supplied with district heating and cooling. Each apartment is equipped with individual consumption monitoring equipment for hot water, heat and electricity.

Reception/Concierge
HSB Turning Torso has a reception manned 24 hours a day by a concierge who can provide a range of services that makes life easier for residents.

Car park
It is possible to rent a parking space in the separate car park block next to HSB Turning Torso. The car park can be easily reached through a private tunnel.

Storerooms
Storerooms for the apartments are available in the parking block.

Moving in date
Started teh 1 of November 2005.

Safety
Fire safety is maintained to an extremely high standard. HSB Turning Torso has a sprinkler system installed in every room. There is a double water supply to the system and it also has its own emergency power supply.

One of the lifts is specifically constructed for use by emergency crews and for evacuation if necessary. Safety aspects have been a prime consideration and a detailed risk analysis has been carried out. HSB Turning Torso will have optimal safety features to ensure that all residents can feel completely confident about their safety.

Local service
Malmö University, a private primary school, a couple of restaurants, cafes are all nearby and a big grocery store. As further development takes place in the area there will be additional prime locations for a variety of shops and services. There are discussions about building a nursery and a primary school for 500 children.
There is a bus stop directly outside HSB Turning Torso.

The Öresund region
A dynamic business community with many newly established companies, both on the Swedish and Danish side of Öresund. Respected universities and expansive research centres are represented here.
